Luke's Helmet

When Lucas turned 4 months our pediatrician noticed he had developed a flat spot on the back of his head.  We were told that this is somewhat common and related to Lucas being a bigger kid and sleeping on his back.  The exact term is "plagiocephaly" and we were referred to a special pediatric orthotist for a corrective helmet.  In total, Lucas wore a cranio-cap for 4 months and we had check-ups every other week to have his orthoses adjusted.  He had to wear the helmet for 22 hours per day which was a bit of a hassle at first (for us, Lucas didn't seem to notice) but we quickly grew accustomed to it.  In the end it was completely worth any inconvenience because he responded very well to the treatment and his head is rounded out nicely.

Here is the flat spot:

He looks so cute with his helmet on!

Melissa found a website called "blingmyband" that makes decals for these types of helmets.  So we went with an "Under Construction" theme.

Unfortunately, I don't have any after photos but the difference was noticeable and all his measurements were exactly what we were hoping for.
